Education

I am a graduate of the College of Charleston and majored in Special Education and Elementary Education grades 1-8.  I also have certification in the areas of middle school Social Studies and Gifted & Talented education.  Through the years I have taught in Charleston County but the majority of teaching has been in Georgetown County.  I taught for almost 16 full years at the former Beck Middle School and then at Waccamaw Middle School.  I retired in 2010 but have returned to the classroom to do several long term substitute positions in English, Science and supplemental studies.  I am happy to be a part of the Howard Adult Center as well as the Howard Optional Program as a Special Services teacher.

Bio

I was born and raised in Georgetown, SC, and attended Georgetown County schools.  Graduating in 1974, I attended the College of Charleston where I double majored in Elementary Education and Special Education.  The first five and a half years of teaching were in Charleston County schools upon which I returned to Georgetown and began teaching at Beck Middle School.

I married Jim Hooks, a Physical Edcation teacher here in GCSD, in 1988 and we have two children.  My son, Stuart, graduated from Clemson and is an accountant in Florence, SC.  My daughter, Julia, is a recent graduate of the College of Charleston.

I enjoy traveling, cooking, gardening, and reading.  I have traveled to the Bahamas, Mexico, U.K., Ireland, France, and Italy.  My goal is to explore more of the United States and Canada.
