Mrs. Martin graduated from Winthrop College (now University) with a degree in Elementary Education.  She received her Master's Degree plus thirty hours above in Elementary Education from Francis Marion College (now University).

Mrs. Martin taught first grade for one year in Williamsburg County at Battery Park Elementary, three years at the former Bynum Elementary in Georgetown, and twenty-nine years at Kensington Elementary in Georgetown.  Twenty-five of those years were spent teaching third grade.

After retiring in 2010, she decided to re-enter the teaching field and came to Howard Adult Center to teach basic skills and literacy classes. She loves teaching adults!

Mrs. Martin grew up in Williamsburg County, but she has lived in Georgetown for thirty-five years, the same amount of time she has been married to her husband, Rick Martin.  He is the building inspector for the city of Georgetown.  They have two grown daughters, Marie Martin Philipp, who is married to Drew.  They live in Greenwood, SC while he is doing his medical residency.  Mandy Martin lives in Mt. Pleasant, and she teaches child development in North Charleston at Goodwin Elementary.  Mrs. Martin enjoys reading and singing in the church choir at First Baptist Church in Georgetown.
