Graduation Requirements for the
Adult Education High School Diploma Program
The student must earn a total of 24 prescribed units of credit to earn a state high school diploma. The unit requirements are distributed as follows:

* Keyboarding may count up to one-half unit of the computer science requirement.
Membership in an adult education program shall be limited to individuals eighteen years of age or older who have left the elementary or secondary school, except when the local school board assigns students under the age of eighteen years who are not officially in membership in a regular school. Students under eighteen may be assigned to an adult education program when they exhibit either an unusual educational need or physical, social, or economic problem that can be served more effectively by the adult education program. No student under the age of sixteen may be assigned to the adult education program for any reason.
No student shall be graduated from the adult education program prior to the time that he or she would have graduated from a regular high school unless written approval is granted by the high school principal and the SDE’s Office of Adult and Community Education.

General Information
The High School Equivalency and Replacement Diploma Office of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is responsible for the archiving of student permanent records of former and alumni SCDE students. SCDE is now offering a convenient and secure website for former students and corporations to request transcripts and student records online. Please note, if you have withdrawn at any time during the current school year, contact the last school attended for copies of records.
If the student is 18 years of age or older, school records will not be released to a parent, guardian, or responsible person without the student’s written consent.
Important Information:
- All requests for student records/information will be submitted and paid for online using a credit or debit card.
- Phone, mail, or fax requests will no longer be accepted.
- You will receive emails from scribOnline@scribsoft.com to notify you of the status of your order. It is important you read those emails carefully as additional information may be required to process your request.
- For those requesting to pick up records, an official, unexpired photo ID is required such as a driver license, passport or military ID.
- Please allow 10 business days to process student records orders.
- All Fees are research fees and are not refundable.
If you did not participate in the adult education high school diploma program, Georgetown County Adult Education Center will not have a record of your high school transcript. You will need to request your transcript from the last high school you attended.
